Tip #2. Go To Bed And Get Up At The Same Time Every Day

It's a good habit you need to acquire. First, you get more effective sleep for the same period of time, if you go to bed and wake up at the same time every day.

Second, it's better for your health - your body will handle it more easily if you keep the same circadian rhythm. Human body gets used to your sleeping pattern, and any significant change to this pattern usually results in a stress - you can not fall asleep for a long time, or you are having really hard time to get off the bed.

Finally, when your body gets used to the schedule you've selected, it will become much easier for you to get up. You will not even need an alarm clock.

I read advices form some source saying "you should go to bed when you feel sleepy". While it sounds reasonble, the problem is that I may not feel sleepy untill I actually lie down, close my eyes and relax. So I absolutely agree with this advice above - just go to bed at planned time.

If you can't fall asleep right away - stay in bed and just read a book for 15 minutes. It's great sleeping tool for me.

I tend to agree with Susan.

If you get up early, then in the evening you should fall asleep pretty fast. So just go to bed, close your eyes and start thinking about something pleasant.

Once I developed a habit of waking up at 5:30am, it never takes me more than 10 minutes to fall asleep in the evening (I go to bed at 10:30pm the latest).

Maybe it works for you but during summer it definitely doesn't work for me. Because it's too hot during daytime I fall asleep and mess up my entire sleeping schedule.

I practice getting in the bed and if not sleepy meditating while lying down. That takes away all other thoughts in mind and cleans up mind, making way to sleep

If you cannot fall asleep in 15 minutes get out of bed and read a book or something for an hour. Make sure you get out of bed at the same time every morning though. 5:00 AM is a good time, it works best if its really early. Make sure you get straight out of bed in the morning, never use the snooze alarm. Just hop out of bed and take a shower. It helps to have a well defined routine for the first 15-30 minutes of your morning.
