Tip #20. Wake Up From The Inside

Added: 7/11/2007 8:34:36 PM

Alarms are “external irritants” that make you wake up. When wake up alarm goes off, your mind wakes up but your internal organs keep “sleeping” for some more time. How you can wake up “from the inside”?

Put a glass of water near alarm clock (make sure to put an alarm clock far enough from your bed) and drink the water first thing as you wake up.

Very likely you’ll want to visit a bathroom next, but even if you don’t -- one glass of water is usually enough to awaken your body. What many people do once they get up? They turn on their coffee maker and few minutes later drink a cup of coffee. This has in general the same effect, though in this case it’s strengthened by coffee’s energizing properties. Why glass of water is a better trick for waking up from inside? First, it’s immediate – you don’t have to wait as with coffee (you can fall asleep waiting!), and second, water is healthier.

I keep my coffee maker next to the bed and set it to brew ten minutes before the alarm goes off. This way, when the alarm sounds, my coffee is ready and waiting for me.

So...you wake up and pound a cup of blazing hot coffee? as soon as you sit up in bed? thats absurd.

I do the same except instead of drinking the coffee as soon as I wake up, I give myself my daily grande latte enema! Works every time!

I drink what must amount to several glasses of water throughout the night via a water bottle and have no problems getting back to sleep, so I'm not sure how this would with everyone.

I use suggestion as well, but sometime I'm so tired when I go to bed that I can't do it well. I did invest in a sunrise alarm clock that lights up the room gradually when it's time to get up. www.betterhealthinnovations.com/Soleil_Ultima_Sun_Alarm_Clock_Dawn_Simulator_p/soleil-sa-2008.htm

It helps, and doesn't wake me up with a big scare.

This is a great suggestion. I also like the idea of training yourself to just jump out of bed immediately when the alarm sounds. Thanks for the tip!

Pushing yourself to wake up is far the best thing and most efficent.
